To minivan or not to minivan

One thing I noticed when I came here in Canada was that, majority of the commercials on the telly has something to do with cars. Unlike back home, having a car is a necessity here and not a luxury. In Winnipeg, we don't have trains. We have reliable buses that come on schedule. I have great respect for bus commuters because I had been one myself when I was still working on shift schedules. It was spring that time and I was complaining, what more these chilly cold below zero wintry temperature days! So I told Kevin I will get my license as soon as possible. However, I got discouraged because it will take 3 years for me to get a full-fledged driver's license unless I have a license back home. I regret having not looked into this before I came here. But its too late, so as early as April, I applied for knowledge test. And guess what, its 2012 now and I havent taken the test! Talk about procrastination, I even wrote my master's thesis about it.

My problem with not being able to drive is, I will always be at the mercy of being chauffered by Kevin. Other than that, Kevin is a beat-up truck kinda guy. He's a mechanic and he will never buy Ford Focus-- the one car I want to own. For the longest time, he's been driving me to work with his beloved truck. When we found out that we're pregnant with twins, we started using his car. But... we have a dog, and ridiculous as it may sound, our car decisions are in the end based on our dog's travel requirements. Then the unthinkable happens, we resign to the idea that the only way we can make this work is to get a minivan. Yes, a minivan. Nothing screams your status as parents than a minivan!

Against our will, we started scouring for a minivan. These ubiquitous boxes-on-wheels were invisible to me before, now I see them everywhere especially in the parking lot of Costco. :) We got lucky to get a silver-colored box for a bargain of a price, that we can drive around town. We officially gave up our groove, no more sun-roof cars in the near future.
